DESCRIPTION:The FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) helps a
dvance drug development by providing scientific and regulatory direction.
CDER works in a rapidly evolving ecosystem\, where the focus is moving t
owards rare diseases and common disease subset populations to be addresse
d by novel drug developments. These shifts in the drug development landsc
ape require innovative approaches and novel clinical trial designs to exp
and drug development tools and improve the use of real-world evidence. \n
\nTo keep pace with this everchanging drug development landscape\, CDER i
s working extensively to advance innovation in clinical trial design and
conduct. CDER's portfolio of clinical trial innovation includes guidance
documents\, working groups\, public workshops\, public-private partnershi
ps\, and other programs dedicated to enhancing the design and conduct of
clinical trials. While there is increasing momentum to transform clinical
trials\, there are still many barriers to implementation and adoption of
innovations in clinical trial approaches. \n\nThe Duke-Margolis Center f
or Health Policy\, under a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Food and D
rug Administration\, is convening a two-day hybrid Public Workshop on Mar
ch 19-20 to identify these barriers and potential strategies across all s
takeholders. The goals of this workshop are to identify key challenges an
d opportunities in clinical trial modernization efforts around the follow
ing topics: \n\n- Regulatory and Compliance Considerations\n- Patient-Cen
tricity and Recruitment Innovations\n- Clinical Trial Infrastructure and
Organizational Culture\n\nThis event is open to all.

DESCRIPTION:Research data have value beyond their original purpose and by
sharing or "publishing" your data you can support open science\, reproduc
ibility\, and future innovation. This workshop will explore strategies an
d best practices for formally publishing your data in a data repository.
Topics covered will include new modes of publishing in academia\, the use
of data and metadata standards to support interoperability and harmoniza
tion\, an overview of repository options and key features\, examples of d
isciplinary repositories\, and data publishing methods to increase the im
pact of research projects and support the FAIR Guiding Principles (i.e.\,
Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable\, and Reusable). Participants will
engage in a break-out activity where they will practice finding and asse
ssing data repositories using their own data/research area. We are also h
olding an online version of this workshop on March 7 (10-12 am) (https://
duke.libcal.com/event/11636697) where participants will engage in a simil
ar exercise but using general case studies. This event is open to non-Duk

DESCRIPTION:*Hybrid Event* A fundamental motivation in human development i
s wanting to feel recognized\, appreciated\, and capable of actions that
benefit others. These motivations begin in childhood but are amplified in
adolescence. This motivation (to 'matter' and to feel that one's actions
matter to others) can exert a strong influence on behavior as young adol
escents explore and learn how to navigate increasingly complex and uncert
ain social environments. This creates a formative period of social learni
ng that can shape identity development. Understanding this sensitive peri
od of learning has implications for early intervention strategies to impa
ct trajectories of behavioral and emotional health and social development
.\n\nRonald E. Dahl is the director of the Institute of Human Development
at the University of California\, Berkeley\, where he also serves as a p
rofessor in the School of Public Health and the Joint Medical Program and
runs the Adolescent Research Collaborative. He is the founding director
of the Center for the Developing Adolescent\, where he provides the strat
egic vision for the Center's research agenda. He is a pediatrician and de
velopmental scientist with long-standing research interests in the develo
pment of sleep/arousal regulation\, affect regulation\, and the developme
nt of behavioral and emotional disorders in children and adolescents. \n\
nHis research is interdisciplinary and bridges basic developmental resear
ch (emphasizing social and affective neuroscience) and the translation of
this work into clinical and social policy relevance. He has published ex
tensively on child and adolescent development\, sleep disorders\, behavio
ral/emotional health in children\, adolescent brain development and the p
olicy implications of this work. He has been elected as a fellow of sever
al organizations\, including the Association for Psychological Science\,
American Academy of Pediatrics\, New York Academy of Sciences\, and the A
merican Academy of Sleep Medicine. He is also a founding editor of the jo
urnal Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience and is past president of the S
ociety for Research in Child Development.\n\nThis lecture is made possibl
e through an endowment from the Arthur Sulzberger Family. Please join us
for a reception immediately following the talk.\n\nVisitor parking is ava
ilable at the Science Drive visitor's lot\, a short walk from the Sanford
School. The rate is $2 per hour.

. To register for the meeting and to submit questions for the finalists\,
go to https://trustees.duke.edu/young-trustee. (Please register by end o

DESCRIPTION:Public- and private-sector investors are seeking to advance su
stainable\, quality infrastructure to improve economic productivity\, tra
nsition to a low-carbon economy\, promote social wellbeing\, and build cl
imate resilience.\n\nYet most new infrastructure isn't fulfilling these g
oals. The disconnect often comes down to a lack of consensus on how to id
entify sustainable and resilient infrastructure projects and their benefi
ts. Numerous global initiatives are competing to define these characteris
tics-leading to a confusing landscape for financiers and developers alike
.\n\nDuring this panel discussion\, experts will examine the merits\, cha
llenges\, and opportunities related to different approaches to spur inves
tment and construction of sustainable\, quality infrastructure. Panelists
will aim to identify opportunities and challenges to advance the global
adoption of sustainability standards\, indices\, and policies that mobili
ze public and private finance.\n\nRussell Singer (U.S. Department of Stat
e)\, Cristina Contreras (Sinfranova)\, Pratima Singh (Economist Impact)\,
Anthony Kane (Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure)\, and William Ph

Dot Network\, Envision\, Infrastructure for Good\, and others. Elizabeth
