Climate Change and Community Action: Panel Discussion

The impact of climate change is visible in our everyday lives, and many of us are seeking to focus national priorities on this challenge. Each generation will bring skills and priorities to the effort. Join us for this online webinar and panel presentation with Duke University students and faculty. You'll hear from students Renata Kamakura and Jon Choi about their work with the Sunrise Movement, a youth movement seeking to stop climate change, as well as faculty members Ryke Longest, Nancy McLean and Megan Mullin.

The Sunrise Movement is built upon and stands with other justice movements, in recognition that all social, economic and political challenges are connected. Sunrise works for the creation of good jobs through climate justice. We will review the Green New Deal, efforts of the Sunrise Movement, history of U.S. citizen engagement, and how community involvement will help us all move forward.

We will be joined by the following panelists: Sunrise Movement members and Duke students Renata Kamakura and Jon Choi; Dr. Megan Mullin, the Dan and Bunny Gabel Associate Professor of Environmental Politics; Dr. Nancy MacLean, William H. Chafe Professor of History and Public Policy, and director of the Center for the Study of Class, Labor, and Social Sustainability (CLASS Center); Dr. Ryke Longest, director of Clinical and Experiential Programs, clinical professor of environmental sciences and policy and co-director of the Environmental Law and Policy Clinic. The discussion will be moderated by Kavanah Anderson, education program coordinator at Duke Gardens.
