Botanical Dyeing Workshop

Event Image
Wednesday, March 29, 2023
6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Learn about the world of plant-based dyes in this in-person workshop led by Tigerlily Kaynor, Duke student in anthropology and member of Duke Gardens' Equity Through Stories Program, and Kati Henderson, Duke Gardens staff educator and partnerships coordinator. We'll demonstrate how to harvest and prepare dyes from a variety of botanical materials that can grow here, and how to select and prepare fabric for dyeing. Then you'll dye a pouch or tote bag to take home.
Participants are also welcome to bring in their own natural-fiber materials to dye as space allows. Further directions will be shared after registration. Children ages 10 - 17 can participate with an adult; both are required to register. This workshop will take place primarily indoors, with a portion outdoors in the garden. Meet in the Doris Duke Center.

Fee: $16 per person; 20% discount for Gardens members with seasonal discount code. Registration is at https://rsvp.duke.edu/g1nKqO.
