Event Image
Friday, October 29, 2021
11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Rev. Dr. Selina D. Carter

In every country, gender-based violence is a tragic reality. This violence is frequently hidden, and victims are often silent, fearing stigma and further trauma. In partnership with Church Mutual, the Office of Black Church Studies will host a training workshop with Rev. Dr. Selina D. Carter for pastors and faith-based leaders designed to address the church response to domestic and sexual violence. Please register for this in-person workshop or virtual Zoom session.

About Thursdays in Black

We all have a responsibility to speak out against violence, to ensure that women and men, boys and girls, are safe from rape and violence in homes, schools, work, streets - in all places in our societies.

Often black has been used with negative racial connotations. In response, the World Council of Churches began their Thursdays in Black campaign. In this campaign, Black is used as a color of resistance and resilience. Each Thursday, leaders are asked to wear black to stand in solidarity against gender violence and bring awareness to the global movement resisting attitudes and practices that permit rape and violence.
