AMI Showcase--Film Noir Series

Film Screening: "Odd Man Out" (Carol Reed, 1947, 116 min, UK, in English, B&W, Blu-Ray) / Taking place largely over the course of one tense night, Carol Reed's psychological noir, set in an unnamed Belfast, stars James Mason as a revolutionary ex-con leading a robbery that goes horribly wrong. Injured and hunted by the police, he seeks refuge throughout the city, while the woman he loves (Kathleen Ryan) searches for him among the shadows. Reed and cinematographer Robert Krasker create images of stunning depth for this fierce, spiritual depiction of a man's ultimate confrontation with himself. / -- Nominee for Best Film Editing at Academy Awards (1948)! / -- Winner for Best British Film at BAFTA Awards (1948)! / "This may be Reed's most pretentious film, but it also happens to be one of his very best, beautifully capturing the poetry of a city at night." - Chicago Reader / "Carol Reed has made his film with deliberation and care, and has achieved splendid teamwork from every member of the cast. Occasionally too intent on pointing his moral and adorning his tale, he has missed little in its telling." - Variety / "'Odd Man Out' is a picture to see, to absorb in the darkness of the theatre and then go home and talk about." - New York Times / Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsLLfuNOvws
