12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Ted Weinert Ph.D., University of Arizona

Dr. Weinert¿s Laboratory study how chromosome instability arises, using genetics in budding yeast. They stumbled innocently upon a phenomenon that has captured our interests for a few years now. The current model is that errors in DNA replication, in the telomere or in the body of the chromosome, lead to unstable dicentric chromosomes, lead to the expected genetic chaos. Currentl, his lab is focusing on understanding the initial events that precipitate instability, getting into the complex/not well understood field of DNA replication error.
