Psychiatry Grand Rounds: "Learning Cognitive Control: Cognitive and Neural Mechanisms of Adapting Control to Changing Contexts"

Dr. Tobias Egner received his B.Sc. in Psychology (1999) and Ph.D. in Cognitive Neuroscience (2002) from the University of London, before performing postdoctoral research at Columbia University (2003-2006) and Northwestern University (2006-2009). In 2009, he joined the faculty of the Psychology and Neuroscience Department at Duke University, where is now an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience. Dr. Egner uses non-invasive neuro-imaging and neuro-stimulation techniques to study the human brain, and he has published over 80 journal articles on the neural mechanisms of cognitive and affective control, attention, and visual cognition, including in Science; Nature Neuroscience; Neuron; and Current Biology (Google Scholar h-index = 41, > 10,000 citations). He acts as a Section Editor for Neuropsychologia, Associate Editor for Frontiers in Psychology, and Consulting Editor for Cognitive, Affective, and Behavioral Neuroscience, and he is the Editor of the Wiley Handbook of Cognitive Control. Dr. Egner is a Fellow of the Association for Psychological Science and of the Psychonomic Society and a member of the Program and Steering Committees of the Cognitive Neuroscience Society. His work is supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense.
