Dr. Rebekah Jakel is a graduating 4th year psychiatry resident at Duke University Medical Center. She was the Executive Chief Resident in the department of Psychiatry for the 2011-2012 academic year, serving on the Residency Executive Committee, the newly formed Residency council, Duke ICGME, and resident co-chair of the Residency Curriculum Committee. Dr. Jakel completed her undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Psychology at Saint Olaf College in Northfield, MN. She received her MD and PhD training through the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at the University of Wisconsin where she was also a Wisconsin Distinguished Fellow. Her dissertation addressed the role of the endogenous defense mechanisms including the Antioxidant Response Element in Parkinson¿s disease pathogenesis. Her interests include geriatric psychiatry, psychiatric manifestations of neurodegenerative and iatrogenic movement disorders, and general adult psychiatry.
