Hungary's current "retro-Fascism" presents a puzzle for political theory. Is it simply a way to legitimize authoritarian politics after an economic failure? Or, is it an unorthodox effort to reinvigorate the nation-state after the collapse of the neoliberal consensus about Europeanintegration, market economy and liberal democracy? Should we be concerned about contagious effect in Southeastern Europe and elsewhere? The lecture will seek to explain the emergence of an authoritarian political regime in the EU.Presented by the Center for European Studies at DukeLight lunch will be servedFree and open to the public
