Film Screening: "Pina" (3D) (Wim Wenders, 2011, 103 min, Germany, France, & UK, Color, 3D DCP) -- Presented in one of the rare screenings in the Research Triangle in its intended 3D format, Wim Wenders's "Pina" will conclude this special Thinking Cinematics series on 3D cinema aesthetics, by offering a masterful example of the unique artistic potentials of this new technology. Not simply a magnificent work from one of the most prolific European filmmakers, Wim Wenders, "Pina" is essentially a film for and about the greatly influential German dancer and choreographer: Pina Bausch. Indeed, the film is an extraordinary and unique moment in film history, capturing the aesthetic language and cinematic experience associated with the documentary, experimental, and art traditions in cinema, as well as dance, theater, and music - all brought together within Wenders's revolutionary use of digital 3D. -- Reserved seating and free transportation from Duke will be available to Duke faculty, students, and staff who pre-register on our website during March 18th - 28th. -- Event details: http://tinyurl.com/Pina3D-NC -- For directions to the screening venue, the WRAL 3D Theater in the NC Museum of Natural Sciences: http://naturalsciences.org/visitor-info/directions-parking -- **If you pre-reserved a seat on the charter bus for the PINA screening, please arrive at the East Campus bus stop by 6:15pm on the night of the screening, so we can ensure an on time departure at 6:30pm!
