The Duke German Department will host a lecture on Thursday, March 15 at 4:00pm in Room 102 Biddle (East Campus) by Monika Hennemann from the University of Birmingham (U.K.) entitled "Jewish Cupids and Scottish Valkyries: Once More Mendelssohn and Wagner." Professor Hennemann's talk on music and anti-Semitism will focus on the largely overlooked influence of Mendelssohn on Wagner's music, and attempt to map out possible ways to investigate Wagner's debt to Mendelssohn. This lecture is generously sponsored by the Duke Department of German, the Center for Jewish Studies, and the Department of Music.
