Diaspora as Mind: Making Sense of the Experiences of the Japanese Silent Minority in Taiwan in the Context of 'Multiculturalism' and 'Postcoloniality'
A phenomenon of benign neglect in postwar, Taiwanhas been the plight of ethnic Japanese, most of whomwere married to ethnic Taiwanese, who settled orcontinued to live after the colonial era and the restoration of a Chinese Nationalist (KMT) regime. While the rise of indigenization in recent years has shed light on the oppressed history of Taiwanese andaboriginal first peoples as well as a need to recoversources of traditional culture and identity amongpolitically repressed groups, through critical multiculturalism, few have advocated the plight of longsettled non¿Han ethnicities, who were subject to the same conditions of cultural assimilation and politicalanonymity.
