Yilun Zhou & Kevin He · Jenkins Collaboratory / CEINT Research Assistant Internship
Media Arts + Sciences Rendezvous

During this past summer rising Sophomores Kevin He and Yilun Zhou joined the Jenkins Collaboratory (http://jenkins.duke.edu/). The students spent their summer learning about the Jenkins Collaboratory's work for Duke's Center for the Environmental Implications of NanoTechnology (CEINT; http://www.ceint.duke.edu/) in bottom-up global nanotechnology analysis. The students began learning how to perform data collection, cleaning, analysis and presentation through an intensive hands-on experience. Computer Science major Yilun Zhou, our first presenter, will present an overview of what he learned working on preparing large data sets using simple tools like Bash, Sed, AWK, and Java. Our second presenter, Economics major Kevin He, will share his experience learning web programming and reveal some elements of his burgeoning D3.js portfolio. The goal is to create a community through: meeting face-to-face with other people who are interested in Media Arts + Sciences, sharing ideas / methods / resources, learning about the projects we're all working on, and socializing and getting to know each other better. Our featured speakers will give a short review of their project(s) to give us a taste of what they're thinking about and engage everyone in a discussion on the topic. All those interested in Media Arts + Sciences at Duke are welcome! Drinks and light snacks will be provided.
