For our first Tuesday Tea in the spring semester we are honored to present Allison Matthews a doctoral candidate in the Department of Sociology and Humphreys Fellow with the Graduate School at UNC-Chapel Hill.Allison's dissertation research focuses on the role that Black and gay identity plays in Black gay men's religious choice and participation. Her research interests include race and ethnicity, masculinity and sexuality, religion, and health disparities. She has experience conducting community-based participatory research and seeks to understand how intersectional identities influence mental and physical health outcomes for African Americans. Allison was inducted into the Frank Porter Graham Graduate and Professional Honor Sociology in 2013 for her service to the local community and university and received the Everett K. Wilson Graduate Student Teaching Award in 2014 for her excellence in teaching.Conversation Focus: Searching for "Whosoever Ministries" Examining Black Gay Men's Church-Going Decisions as Stigmatized Identity Management.Location: Erwin Mill Building, Bay B, Room B140, Duke University, East Campus.
