Reception + Artists' Talk for "Hard Art, DC 1979"

Event to celebrate the traveling exhibit "Hard Art, DC 1979" with photographer Lucian Perkins--along with musician/writer Alec MacKaye. The exhibit is on view through October 11, 2014.In 1979, a soon-to-erupt hardcore punk scene took hold in Washington, D.C., with bands like Bad Brains, the Teen Idles, and the Slickee Boys at the forefront. Perkins, a future two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist, was a 26-year-old intern at the Washington Post when he shot the images featured in the Hard Art exhibit (and accompanying book) at several pivotal shows -- now-iconic photographs from a transformative cultural movement.
