12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Paul Maddox, PhD.

Paul Maddox has spent his career applying cutting-edge microscopy to investigate an incredibly critical and dynamic cellular relationship: the interaction between spindle microtubules and chromosomes. As a graduate student with Ted Salmon at UNC, Paul was instrumental in developing innovative microscopy methods to investigate microtubule dynamics during mitosis in both yeast and mammalian cells. He then did a postdoc with Arshad Desai at the UCSD Ludwig Institute, where he turned to C. elegans to study the centromere, and its epigenetic regulation as it pertains to kinetochore function in cell division. Paul began his independent career at the University of Montreal and has recently come back to North Carolina as a member of the UNC Biology Department. Throughout his career, Paul has been incredibly productive, due in large part to his frequent collaborations with leaders in the field, who recognize his rare blend of technical innovation and his ability to make novel and cellular insights
