Kevin Smith, Courtney Berger, and Dr. Beth Sullivan

Are you interested in publishing your research, but not sure where to start? Navigating the landscape of scholarly publishing can be challenging, but the Duke Libraries' Scholarly Publishing 101 seminar is designed to allow you to ask a panel of experts on the publishing industry about finding the tools to get your work published. The seminar will feature Kevin Smith, Head of the Office of Copyright and Scholarly Communication at Duke Libraries, Courtney Berger of Duke University Press, and Dr. Beth Sullivan, Professor of Genetics and Genomics at Duke and editor for the journals PLOS Genetics and Chromosome Research. The panel will address students' questions on a number of topics, including: Why publish as a student, and how do I choose the right journal? How does peer review work? How are editorial decisions about articles made? What is the difference between a closed access and open access journal? How do I navigate signing a publication contract? What my rights as an author? How can I turn my dissertation into my first book?
