Balduin Hesse '00 is CEO, president and founder of Frontier Renewables LLC, a German-American independent power provider and developer of utility-scale solar photovoltaic plants. The company¿s focus is on the development of large ground-mounted solar plants in the United States and rooftop solar plants in Germany. Balduin has run the company since August 2008, helping it grow from a startup to a premier developer and operator of solar plants. A history major and German minor, Balduin studied abroad in Australia and Germany and took part in the Focus Program during his time as a Duke student. He later earned a master¿s degree in financial journalism from Northwestern University and an M.B.A. from INSEAD. He also served as the head of equity markets for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Bloomberg in London. DukeJourneys is a dinner series to help undergraduates synthesize their education with global and civic involvement. Through conversations with Duke alumni and one another, students can begin to examine their choices, understand their experiences and visualize their futures, not just as part of their college curricula, but as templates for their adult lives. Please join Balduin Hesse for dinner and thoughtful conversation on his life at Duke and his journey to build a company providing independent power and clean energy.
