Psychoanalysis in an International Frame

Diamela Eltit's novel Jamás el fuego nunca was published in 2007, a year after Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet's death. The book, not coincidentally, presents a suspicion about death, about its circumstances and temporality, about its material and immaterial remains. This talk argues that, through the paranoid reconstruction of the past, Eltit aims to structure a reparative historical modality to reckon with death, torture, and oblivion in Chile's post-dictatorial era.Carolina Díaz holds a Joint PhD in Women's Studies and Spanish from Rutgers University.
