Shantanu Agrawal, MD was appointed by the Obama Administration to serve as Deputy Administrator for Program Integrity and Director of the Center for Program Integrity at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). He focuses on improving healthcare value by lowering the cost of care through the detection and prevention of waste, abuse, and fraud in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. Prior to this role, Dr. Agrawal served as Chief Medical Officer of the Center for Program Integrity, where he helped to launch new initiatives in data transparency and analytics, utilization management, assessment of novel payment models, and a major public-private partnership between CMS and private payers. A board-certified Emergency Medicine physician and Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Agrawal has published articles in JAMA, New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Emergency Medicine, among others. He presents nationally on health care policy and the cost of care.
