John Fowler is a voice faculty member of the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University where he teaches Studio Voice and Opera Workshop. During a 30-year career as an operatic tenor, voice teacher and opera director, Mr. Fowler has performed title roles on many of the world's premier stages including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Vienna Staatsoper, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Zürich Opera, Opéra de Nice, Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Frankfurter Oper, Oper Köln, Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Belgium, Gran Teatre de Liceu, Barcelona, Spain, Teatro Real, Madrid, Spain and Opera Nacional de Sao Carlos Lisbon, Portugal. In 1997 as part of PBS's Live From Lincoln Center television series, he was awarded an Emmy for his portrayal of Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème, a role he has sung worldwide over 350 times. Mr. Fowler's voice students have been successful at international vocal competitions, won places at major young artist programs, and gone on to perform leading roles at national and international opera houses. He is co-founder and Artistic Director of Opera Experience Southeast, a 501(c)(3) Summer opera program focused on showcasing and promoting young US-trained operatic talent.
