Race in Cuba: Contemporary Updates
Join us for a conversation with Roberto Zurbano, Cuban literary critic, social activist, and acclaimed writer. Ned Sublette, author of Cuba and Its Music, The World That Made New Orleans, and most recently, The American Slave Coast, will discuss the AfroCuban literary camp and social activism with Zurbano. As Zurbano once wrote in the NY Times, "to question the extent of racial progress was tantamount to a counterrevolutionary act. This made it almost impossible to point out the obvious: racism is alive and well." Also co-sponsored by the Consortium in Latin American and Caribbean Studies at UNC-CH and the Department of Language and Literature NCCU.
