The small city of Reggio Calabria in Southern Italy has seen the arrival of thousands of refugees over the past couple of years. Refugees and migrants are coming from all over the world to Europe, hoping to find better living conditions. Who are the people coming and who are the people receiving them? Behind the overwhelming numbers, there are thousands of human stories often overlooked by politics and media.

Andrea is a visual journalist and researcher, with a background in anthropology. Gabriela Arp is a producer, filmmaker, and photographer currently studying as a Roy H. Park Fellow at UNC's School of Media and Journalism. In the summer of 2015, Andrea and Gabriela spent 4 weeks documenting intimate stories of the crisis, from both Italians and refugees.

Documenting Italy's Refugees is presented by the John Hope Franklin Center, the Duke Council for European Studies and the Duke University Middle East Studies Center. A light lunch will be served.
