Music: An Act of Social Integration?
Since the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris, the act of attending music concerts (whether classical, pop, jazz, or rock) has taken on new meaning. Concerts have become a symbol of freedom and resistance opposing ideologies that radically deny artistic liberty. Yet, even at a time when societies are affirming the importance of concerts from a social, humanistic, and political standpoint, it is nevertheless important to push the boundaries of social conventions by envisaging new forms and new practices of public concerts. The recent construction of the Paris Philharmonic was designed with precisely this in mind: experimenting with how we "make music together" as a way to transgress social and cultural boundaries.
