Duke Hospital Exhibit: "Finding My Wingspan" Paintings by Joan VanderMeer
"Finding My Wingspan is an exhibit that focuses on paintings intented to stretch my abilities and body of work beyond my normal comfort zone. To find a wingspan one is required to measure a gap from one place to the next. Like a bird's wing, art is often thought of as the beginning of a painting life and as you develop as an artist, one finds a style that is his or her own. This exhibit moves from my familiar paintings of dogs, cats, roosters to people, landscapes and interiors. Different palettes were used and new discoveries were made along the way. My hope is that the viewer finds interesting things to look at and ponder."
