Spring Breakthrough

Spring Breakthrough offers 11 seminar-style courses covering a range of topics and taught by talented professors. The program offers sophomores and freshmen the opportunity to take an intellectually refreshing short course over spring break in a new area of interest, without grading pressures. Students are encouraged to pick a course topic that is intriguing, but outside of their intended field of study. As such, all courses offer a low barrier to entry, free from prerequisites or specific knowledge that may deter students from exploring new areas of study. Each course runs from Sunday to Thursday of spring break week and includes a balance of classroom-based discussion and other methods of learning that provide students with the opportunity to process new information in a refreshing way (e.g., field trips within the local community, outside experiments). The application/registration process for Spring Breakthrough takes place from November 7, 2016 through January 13, 2017. Participation in Spring Breakthrough is limited to the students registered for one of the classes offered.
