Qiu Wang, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry "Leveraging Chemistry for Biology, Imaging and Therapy - Design, synthesis and discovery of novel small-molecule probes"

Research in the Wang group aims to answer fundamental questions that lie at the interface of chemistry and biology. In particular, we are interested in developing small-molecule based probes and methods to understand the cause of disease with an emphasis on identifying potential therapeutic agents towards cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. This talk will present our chemistry efforts toward developing novel small-molecule probes for molecular labeling (e.g. 18F-PET agents), new antipsychotics, and arginine methylation regulation.

Professor Qiu Wang received her Ph.D. from Emory University in Organic Chemistry under the direction of Professor Albert Padwa (2005). She completed her postdoctoral trainings with Professor Andrew Myers at Harvard University (2005-2007) and Professor Stuart Schreiber at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT (2007-2011). She started her independent career as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Duke University in 2011. Her current research interests center on new chemistry and strategies for advancing discovery of biologically and pharmacologically important small-molecule probes and imaging tools, especially those related to cancer and neurodegenerative disease.
