Brown-Bag Talk in Spanish (no interpretation will be provided)
Wildin Acosta will speak in Spanish and will answer questions posed to him in advance of the talk by Duke students. Wildin, a teenage asylum-seeker from Honduras, was arrested by ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement) in January 2016 as he set out to attend his classes at Riverside HS in Durham. He was held at the Stewart Detention Center, a private prison operated by Corrections Corporation of America, located in Lumpkin, GA. After a vigorous campaign on the part of community groups such as Alerta Migratoria NC and the Durham Association of Educators, Wildin was released on bond in August. In his talk Wildin would like to draw attention to the cause of other young Central American asylum-seekers who were also arrested by ICE this year, but who remain in prison awaiting deportation.

Attendees are invited to bring their own lunches to this brown-bag talk. Cookies will be served. The talk will be in Spanish and no interpretation will be provided.
