Seth Cantey, Washington and Lee University

Seth Cantey is an Assistant Professor of Politics at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, where he focuses on international security, American foreign policy, and Middle East Politics. After graduating from Bucknell University ('03) and living in Ecuador and Argentina, he earned an MA in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University ('08) and a PhD in Political Science from Duke University ('14). He has received five Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships from the US Department of Education, three Bradley research fellowships, and a Manfred Wörner fellowship from the US German Marshall Fund. The author, most recently, of The Middle East and South Asia, 2016-2017 (Rowman & Littlefield 2016), his current book project focuses on the role of strategy in negotiations between states and non-state actors. An avid traveler, he speaks Arabic, Portuguese, and Spanish.
