Submissions open for The Standard's Open Lyric Competition

In an effort to encourage poetic creativity among Duke's writers, poets, and hip hop enthusiasts alike, The Standard is launching Open Lyrics, the first ever contest of its kind.

The concept of Open Lyrics is simple: pick any verse from any Chance the Rapper song and create your own poem based on that verse's message in 200 words or less. Creativity is a remix, and we look forward to reading your poetic reincarnations of the hip hop lyrics influencing our culture today.

Submissions will be open until 2/23. Link to the submission site can be found on our Facebook page.

The top three poems will be published by The Standard on March 1st and will forever live in internet lore (whether you choose to use it on your resume or as a fun little fact in two truths and a lie..) and the number one poem will win $200 in cold hard cash.

Poems will be judged on creativity, emotional resonance, and clarity of message in relating to the verse chosen.
