Title: Hacking Higher Education
Digitization is changing the world at an unprecedented rate, this phenomena is driving disruption and transformation in all sectors of society however higher education has been slow to integrate this fundamental change. For the most part, higher education has maintained the traditional classroom instructional model with students taking notes and assessments on information they have learned. In the digital age, the value of this model is being questioned as tuition prices escalate, employment opportunities decline and affordable educational alternatives increase. An opportunity for institutions of higher education to remain effective and viable in this increasing digital society is through the establishment of maker spaces on university and college campuses. I will describe the evolution of NCCU Fab Lab and the disruptive nature of this space on the traditional model of higher education.
