***NEW DATE*** Martha Kenney, 2013-14 Postdoctoral Associate in Women's Studies will present her talk, "Epigenetic Metamorphoses: Daphnia Magna and Apollo" on Tuesday, April 1st at 5:45 pm in the East Duke Parlors.Environmental epigenetics is a new field of molecular biology that studies how the environment effects gene expression. In epigenetic narratives DNA is no longer the master molecule; instead we see organisms becoming with their environment. While this may offer a radical, relational understanding of life that could contribute to struggles for social and environmental justice, to date the most charismatic examples of environmental epigenetic studies still rely on conventional assumptions about social and biological difference.
