Steve Snell, PhD, from the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) at Duke University will provide training for this informative workshop. This presentation is designed for researchers new to survey research who are considering using an original survey to collect data. The workshop begins with a discussion of the advantages and opportunities that surveys can offer, as well as when surveys are not appropriate or beneficial for research projects and a quick overview of some alternative methods of data collection. It then provides an overview of the entire survey research process, including theoretical development, mode choice, questionnaire design, sampling, and maximizing response rate. Issues related to implementation and data management are also covered.
