A Contemporary Formulation of Doctrinal Classification: Ven. Sheng Yen and His Formation of the Dharma Drum Lineage

Modern scholars typically present Chan as a tradition that eschews word and language. In this talk, Professor Yu will present a different picture by focusing on a case study of a contemporary Chan movement and shows how Sheng Yen (1930-2009) developed a doctrinal Classification that unified all of the Buddhist teachings under the rubric of Chan.
