More and more research is documenting a simple yet disturbing career fact: going to work can bad for your health. Medical studies are documenting that heart disease, weak immune systems, chronic fatigue, Attention Deficit Traits (ADT) even drug addiction and broken families are a result of stressful and chaotic work environments. In the end, the daily grind of pursuing a career is leaving many of us feeling distressed even under siege. But what is it about work and career that is so unhealthy? Is it our job that is distressing or is it the "mind" that we bring to the task? Can we pursue a career with ambition and passion while being at home in our lives rather than anxious and burdened? During this hands-on lecture we will learn mindfulness awareness meditation and explore how such a simple practice can help us transform the challenges and anxieties of the workplace into opportunities for cultivating well-being and decency on the job.Michael Carroll is the COO of Global Coaching Alliance and author of Awake at Work (2004), The Mindful Leader (2007) and Fearless at Work (2012) and over his 30 year business career has held executive positions with Shearson Lehman/American Express, Simon & Schuster and The Walt Disney Company. Michael presently coaches and consults with such enterprises as Merck, Procter & Gamble, AstraZeneca, Google, Starbucks, RED, and National Geographic Expeditions.
