Tuesday, May 19, 2015
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Sandeep Robert Datta, MD, PhD, Assistant Professor of Neurobiology, Harvard Medical School
Neurobiology Invited Seminar Series

Dr. Datta seeks to understand how the brain is wired to extract information from the environment and convert that information into action. He studies the mammalian olfactory system, which affords most animals the ability to detect and appropriately respond to crucial environmental cues. Dr. Datta's research focuses on neural circuits that trigger fixed action pattern behaviors in response to socially-relevant odors (such as those from food, predators and mates). The invariance of these underlying neural circuits will lead to understanding how sensory cues are coupled to behavioral output centers in higher brain, which in turn reveals principles used by genes to specify behaviors.
