Botany for Beginners: Spring Flora

Explore the art and science of plant identification through walks in the Gardens, botanical sketching and hands-on dissection of plants. We will focus on the pattern method of family-level identification by observing floral parts, leaf shape and arrangement. This section will focus on the buttercup, rose and other flowering families. Students will leave with an appreciation of plant diversity, the tools to look up unfamiliar plants and the curiosity to explore and learn on their own. Topics covered will vary according to seasonal bloom times, and they're tailored to students' interests. Students will benefit most from attending the whole series, but one-time signups are welcome. Each section is schedule for a Monday, 10:30a.m.-noon. First class strongly suggested as prerequisite: Flower Anatomy. For children ages 8 and up. Adult chaperone optional.
