North Carolina: You Live in a Biodiversity Hotspot
Sponsor(s): Sarah P. Duke Gardens
Cost: $13; $10 for Gardens members & Duke staff/students
The ecological story of North Carolina and the Southeast United States is a complicated tale. It includes tropical forests, oceans, mountains and glaciers, to name a few of the BIG events. These natural advantages were clear to early European settlers, including Thomas Ashe, who wrote in 1682 that "the whole country seems but one continuous park." Join us on May 20 at 7-8:30 p.m. to hear Dr. Peter White discuss the exceptional range of species endemic to the Southeast. This amazing story also speaks to the environmental wealth that shapes our lives and reminds us to protect that eco-wealth for future generations. gardens.duke.edu
