DukeJourneys

DukeJourneys is a dinner series to help undergraduates synthesize their education with global and civic involvement. Through conversations with Duke alumni and one another, students can begin to examine their choices, understand their experiences and visualize their futures, not just as part of their college curricula, but as templates for their adult lives. Manjusha Kulkarni ¿91 is executive director of the South Asian Network, a community-based organization dedicated to advancing the health, empowerment and solidarity of people of South Asian origin in Southern California. Through her work at SAN, Manju has advocated for effective policies and practices on issues such as health and health-care access, civil rights and violence prevention. A political science major at Duke, Manju also earned a certificate in women¿s studies and went on to graduate from the Boston University School of Law. Between 1999 and 2010, she served as senior attorney at the National Health Law Program in Los Angeles, working to improve access to quality health care for low-income people. Manju received the White House¿s Community Champion of Change award last year. She earned the Public Service Award from the South Asian Bar Association of Southern California in 2005 and was selected to the Women¿s Policy Institute fellowship program in 2006. Please join Manju Kulkarni for dinner and thoughtful conversation on her life at Duke and her journey to build community.
