Please join Human Rights Law Society for a discussion on end of life autonomy and the "right to die" with Professor Bloche, the Co-Director of the Georgetown - Johns Hopkins Joint Program in Public Health. The discussion will explore legal and ethical implications of end of life decisions, whether we have a right to autonomy in the process of dying and what we can learn from previous cases and incidents. Professor Bloche is a nationally and internationally recognized expert on health law and policy. He was a health care advisor to President Obama's 2008 campaign as well as the presidential transition. He is a graduate of the law and medical schools at Yale, and he completed a residency in psychiatry at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York. Professor Jayne Huckerby, the director of the Duke International Human Rights Clinic, will be commenting and moderating the event. Lunch will be served. Co-sponsored by DukeMed Global Health Interest Group, Duke Global Health Institute's Student Council, Amnesty International, Sanford Women in Policy, Duke Undergraduate Bioethics Society, American Medical Women's Association, Geriatrics Interest Group, and Internal Medicine Interest Group from Duke Medical School.
