Beyond Ebola | A Two-Day Symposium

Monday, April 13 from 5:30-6:30 in Sanford 223, Rhodes Conference Room, Sanford School of Public Policy | Following a series of events surrounding the Ebola crisis in September 2014, the Duke Africa Initiative will host two follow-up events reflecting on the outbreaks in West Africa. On Monday April 13, Coleen Cunningham, M.D., of the Duke Children's Health Center, and Nathan Thielman, M.D., of the Duke Global Health Institute, will discuss their personal experiences with the crisis. Cunningham, professor of pediatrics, vice-chair for research, and chief of infectious diseases and global health in the department of pediatrics, will speak about lessons learned in implementing research during an Ebola outbreak. Thielman, professor of medicine and global health and director of the Global Health Residency/Fellowship Pathway Program, will discuss his personal experience in West Africa. The event will be followed by a lecture by Dr. James A. Sirleaf, founder of Liberia's HEARTT Foundation, on Tuesday April 14. Light Refreshments will be served.
