Music Maker Relief Foundation is a non-profit based in Hillsborough, NC dedicated to helping the true pioneers and forgotten heroes of the blues gain recognition and meet their day-to-day needs. The organization is currently commemorating its 20th anniversary and, in celebration, has collaborated with Duke Performances' Music on the Gardens for a fine series of multi-artist summer concerts.Four exceptional artists, each of whom have been supported by the Music Maker Relief Foundation, appear on this this exclusive quadruple bill at Duke Gardens: Boo Hanks is a guitarist with 'a smooth Piedmont style, reminiscent of Blind Boy Fuller' (Indy Week); eighty-six year old bluesman John Dee Holeman is a North Carolina Folk Heritage Award winner and National Heritage Fellow; Ironing Board Sam is an R&B singer and piano man who was, for many years, a New Orleans fixture and has, with the help of Music Maker, recently relocated to the Piedmont. These three musicians are joined by a fourth fine artist, 'Carolina' Williette Hinton, 'a buckdance master whose charisma is a match for his fancy footwork' (The Roanoke Star).
