Jonathan Lunine
DCC Lecture Series

Did you know that a Catholic priest, Msgr. Georges Lemaitre, developed the Big Bang Theory in 1927? And that Pope Pius XII's enthusiastic response led to some interesting wrinkles? Join us for the fascinating story of this Belgian priest-astrophysicist, his profound insight into cosmic origins, and his dialogue with the Church over the theological interpretation of his discovery.

Refreshments will be served!

This talk is a part of the Duke Catholic Center's Lecture Series, which hosts speakers to address various subjects that illuminate the Catholic intellectual tradition and its relevance to the curricular studies of Duke students. This year, we will be hosting talks on topics ranging from history and the contemporary Church, to philosophy and theology, race and sexuality, and astrophysics. All are welcome, regardless of student status, Duke affiliation, or religious affiliation - the more, the merrier. We seek open inquiry and rigorous dialogue!
