"Take Note" is a curated exhibit of quilts by the African American Quilt Circle of Durham. The African American Quilt Circle (AAQC) was founded in Durham, NC in 1998 to preserve the heritage of quilting in the African American community. Seventeen years later, the AAQC has grown into an arts group with over 60 members of quilters and quilt aficionados who live in the Triangle, surrounding areas including Warrenton, and Wilmington, the east coast (Virginia and Pennsylvania) and Central America (Panama). The group meets monthly at St. Joseph's Historic Foundation at the Hayti Heritage Center in Durham.

In 2008, the AAQC self-published a book, The African American Quilt Circle of Durham. In 2010 AAQC was a recipient of The Indies 2010 Triangle Arts Awards, given annually by the Independent Weekly Newspaper to honor outstanding local artists and arts groups who have demonstrated long-term commitment to the region and have a history of spreading our cultural wealth as widely as possible.

The AAQC takes seriously its charge to maintain the heritage of quilting in the black community and is committed to supporting community projects.

There will be a "Meet the Artists" event on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm at the Arts & Health Galleries in the concourse between Duke Hospital North and the Duke Medicine Pavilion. Live music performed by Tim Smith and William Dawson. This event is free and open to the public.
