"Stalin and the World" addresses the multiple ways that global trends shaped Stalin's rise to power and, in turn, how Stalin's power shaped global events.

Stephen Kotkin is the John P. Birkelund Professor of History and International Affairs at Princeton University, where he has taught since 1989. He co-directs Princeton's program on History and the Practice of Diplomacy. He is the author of several works on Soviet-Eurasian history including Uncivil Society: 1989 and the Implosion of the Communist Establishment; Armageddon Averted: The Soviet Collapse 1970-2000; and Magnetic Mountain: Stalinism as a Civilization. His Stalin, vol. 1, is published in 2014 and covers the years 1878-1928. Volume 2 of Stalin is scheduled for fall 2017 and covers the years 1929-1941.
