Music Master Class Series

The public is invited to attend this free master class. Founded at the Royal College of Music in London in 1994, the Belcea quartet is based in Great Britain. However, the Romanian violinist Corina Belcea and the Polish violist Krzysztof Chorzelski, the two founder members, bring a very different artistic provenance to the ensemble while drawing from the best traditions of string quartet playing received from the quartet's mentors: the members of the Alban Berg and Amadeus Quartets. This spectrum is extended by the French musicians Axel Schacher (violin) and Antoine Lederlin (violoncello). The Belcea Quartet blends its diverse influences into a common musical language. The quartet performs regularly to great acclaim in concert halls across the world: among them the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and Carnegie Hall in New York. The Quartet also appears regularly at the Salzburg, Aldeburgh and Edinburgh Festivals as well as the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg. The quartet's regular partners include Piotr Anderszewski, Martin Fröst, Valentin Erben, Ian Bostridge and Matthias Goerne. This master class is presented in association with Duke Performances. Duke Performances presents the Belcea Quartet in concert on Oct. 15 at 8 pm in Baldwin Auditorium.
