Jazz Vespers with Nnenna Freelon

Exercise your "freedom of music" the day before the Election and join us in an evening of worship and song, featuring GRAMMY-award-winning vocalist Nnenna Freelon.

Ms. Freelon has toured with many of the greatest jazz artists, including Ray Charles, Ellis Marsalis, Al Jarreau, and George Benson. She is also an accomplished composer, producer, arranger, and actress. She also has a passion for education, touring the country for four years as the National Spokesperson for Partners in Education.

Duke University Chapel's Jazz Vespers service combines the form of traditional evening vespers with the musical improvisation of jazz. In addition to Ms. Freelon, musical leadership comes from Duke Music Professor John Brown's "Little Big Band." Chapel Dean Luke Powery will preside at the service, which includes Scripture, a literary reading, and three prayer stations. The Chapel's C. Eric Lincoln Minister, Joshua Lazard, is the service's liturgist.

This special Jazz Vespers is part of Duke Chapel's year of celebration, in honor of the reopening of the Chapel after a year of restoration work.

Public parking is available for $5 in the Bryan Center Parking Garage. Vehicles with an ADA pass may park in front of the Chapel.
