Shayla-Vie Jenkins

Location: Lower Ark Video Lab, East Campus

Shayla-Vie will be in residence re-staging Bill T. Jones' Power/Full for the Modern Dance Repertory course from September 13th-22nd.

She is also pleased to share her perspective about the life and work of a professional dancer in New York City. Shayla's professional touring career with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company began shortly after she attended American Dance Festival in Durham, NC. She will be happy to answer questions and engage in discussion about work and career.

"Bill T. Jones dancer Shayla-Vie Jenkins is a collection of opposites: majestic yet modest, poised yet relaxed, explosive yet contained. She dances as if she's having an intimate conversation with each member of the audience." -Dance Spirit, Maggie McNamara 2014

Shayla-Vie Jenkins is a New York City-based dance artist. From 2005-2015 she was a principal dancer with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. During her tenure, the company received two ensemble NY Dance and Performance Awards/The Bessies. Shayla taught numerous masterclasses and workshops for the company, and restaged some of Bill's most notable works. Her artistry has been deeply affected by her work with such a richly diverse and collaborative dance company. She has been involved in several choreographic and "dance for the camera" projects and is currently investigating her own choreography while pursuing her MFA.
