Master Class in Douglas Dunn technique for modern dancers

Timothy Ward, from the company Douglas Dunn + Dancers, will offer a master class in the Douglas Dunn technique for intermediate/advanced dance students.

The class proceeds through a standing warm-up to phrases of extended movement across the floor and jumping. Passages of partnering and improvisational techniques will also sometimes be studied.

Douglas Dunn, a recipient of many awards and commissions, including a Bessie and Chevalier in the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, is a choreographer and dancer living and working in NYC. In 1971, while a member of Merce Cunningham & Dance Company, and of Grand Union, began presenting work in New York City. In 1976 he formed Douglas Dunn & Dancers and began touring the US and Europe. His choreography appeared most recently at the 92nd Street Y in New York City on June 26, 27, 28 2015 at the invitation of Christopher Williams. The company hosts Salon Events at the Douglas Dunn Studio, showing work, dance, music, poetry, painting, by Dunn and others. Born and Raised in Louisiana, Timothy Ward finished high school at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts. He went on to earn a BFA in dance from The Juilliard School. Afterwards Timothy was the last man chosen by Merce Cunningham to learn and perform his works.
