Eager to learn about the about the impeachment of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff (2010-2016) and calls for the ouster of her successor Michel Temer? Excited or fearful about the unfolding investigations of ex-President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva (2002-2010)? Curious about the role of corruption, dog-eat-dog politics, and congressional, juridical, and media truth telling and/or mischief-making?

Come hear what a leading U.S. scholar of contemporary Brazilian politics has to say about the background and implications of the country's first big political crisis of the 21st century. Lunch will be provided!
Author of three monographs, Professor French has published widely on the politics of Brazilian and Latin American Left Turns and is finishing a biography of Brazil's President Lula (2002-10). He is currently co-director of the Duke Brazil Initiative and the Global Brazil Humanities Lab of Duke's Franklin Humanities Institute.
